What is Kripalu Yoga?
Yoga is a safe and gentle physical practice that can build strength, flexibility and tone the body. As yoga means union, the essence of yoga is a union of body, mind and spirit. Yoga is among the oldest systems of health practiced today and has been proven to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, increase energy, strength and endurance, decrease chronic pain, and can even contribute to weight-loss and a balanced mood.
Yoga is NOT a religion or a belief system. The practice of yoga is a way to connect to yourself with dignity, grace and love. Kripalu translates as "compassion" and Kripalu yoga is the yoga of non-judgmental, compassionate self-awareness. Following the flow of prana (life-force energy), the ancient science and practice of asana (posture), pranayma (breath-work), and meditation quickly translate into life off of the yoga mat.
Using an inquiry-based methodology, Kripalu Yoga increases awareness of body, breath, and mind and encourages natural alignment. Off the mat, this inquiry-based approach to life also encourages natural alignment and increased awareness of our thoughts, words, feelings, and actions.
The essence of Kripalu yoga is not a posture, a breathing exercise, or a meditation technique. It is learning how to be fully present in the experience of being alive.
In this way, Kripalu Yoga is the inquiry of optimal living.
Kripalu Yoga is compatible with all other styles and traditions of yoga practice.
