This 4 week beginners series will compassionately and safely introduce (or re-introduce!) the fundamentals of yoga.
Do you have a body? Then you can practice yoga. I hear all of the time from people who want to do yoga, but feel anxious about coming to a group class. The first thing I always say is that Kripalu Yoga is the yoga of non-judgmental, compassionate self-awareness. Everything else is secondary. In a yoga class, there is nothing to achieve or accomplish. We simply come home to the body, come home to the breath, and learn to make peace with the fluctuations of the mind. Think you're not flexible or strong enough? That's like saying you're too dirty to take a shower! A yoga practice will help you gain flexibility and strength. And that's just the beginning.
Research at well-recognized universities and medical centers has suggested that yoga can address insomnia, digestive conditions, heart disease, diabetes, chronic pain, and many other common ailments. Yoga has been proven to strengthen the immune system, balance and strengthen the endocrine system, permanently lower high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, relieve pain, alleviate anxiety and depression, and cultivate self-compassion.
Taught in a sequential manner, participants will build confidence, strength, and stamina while learning breathing techniques, fundamental yoga postures, and relaxation practices.
Week 1: Introduction; Breath and Body Awareness
Week 2: Standing Postures; Alignment; Koshas
Week 3: Seated Postures; Relaxation; Managing Stress with yoga
Week 4: Vinyasa Flow Yoga; The Art of Intention and Practice
If you have registered and not yet attended the BYS, your registration can be used for any upcoming session!
Beginners Yoga Series TWO
The Beginners Yoga Series II continues the in-depth practice and study of the Beginners Yoga Series. This 4-week workshop will introduce the practitioner to additional pranayama (breath work) practices, asana (yoga postures) & sequences, and meditation techniques. Designed specifically for students who have completed the BYS at hOMe, and open to any interested practitioner as a means to deepen and broaden the practice of yoga.
